In my painting, "A Gathering of Healers," I imagine both the butterflies and the tree as healers. The tired tree stump lovingly transfers its long-held nutrients (in the form of tree sap) to the short-lived butterflies, and in turn, the butterflies gather to offer their own form of healing.
